Fountaine Pajot  Technology

30 years of experience and over 1500 cruising catamarans built:

All Fountaine Pajot catamarans are built from a sandwich structure with a core of PVC foam laminated under vacuum: Outer skins are made of a laminate of fiberglass fabrics and powder binder mats applied by hand with an isophtalic polyester resin; the core of the sandwich is stratified under vacuum leaving cross-linking at regular intervals between the two skins to ensure proper adhesion.

To guarantee against hydrolysis only high quality isophtalic gel-coats are applied. Like every other phase in manufacture, the quality of their application is strictly controlled.

Custom-made fabrics:

Fountaine Pajot and Trawler Catamarans, in collaboration with their suppliers have designed their own fabrics with mono and multidirectional fibers in different qualities in order to optimize the weight and structure of the boat.

In accordance with the quality control process, for every model, an exact sample of each fabric is allocated to specific zones in the vessel and is prepared on a trolley and is recorded.

The choice and composition of fabrics differs according to the zone, orientation of the fibers,  taking into account the mechanical stresses. For zones subject to lower loads, lighter fabrics are employed than for zones subject to higher stresses such as the structural partitions or the external girding in both, the forward beam end fittings and chain plates. In this way, Fountaine Pajot optimize fabric weights with respect to the stresses distributed throughout the boat.

Infusion process :

The entire structure of the boat is built up in layers of dry-bonded fabric. Under vacuum, the resin is able to penetrate into every empty space in a single operation.

Advantages:

-protection of the environment and anticipation of new regulations relating to solvents.
- improved working conditions.
-FP achieves gains in productivity enabling them to build one vessel per model per week !
-perceptible saving in weight compared to manual impregnation techniques resulting in better sailing performance and a stronger boat

Construction and Quality Control :

Collages sous vide. - 8.6 kbThe construction of Fountaine Pajot catamaran Procédé Barcol. - 3.5 kbincludes various inspections in conformity with ISO 9001.

The fiberglass fabrics are checked before use and each stage of lamination is followed by an inspection. Pressure during vacuum gluing operations is continuously measured by Manomètre. - 2.8 kbmeans of a manometer and the quality of the result is systematically checked over the whole glued surface. Hydrolyse des gel-coats. - 7.8 kbThe hardness of the composite is measured on each element after it comes out of the mould by the Barcol procedure and samples taken from each boat are tested in a kiln in order to verify resistance to hydrolysis of the gel-coats and laminates.
The resistance to wear and weathering of the adhesives used for the lining and floors are also tested.

Quality inspections:

When completed, the boat goes to the test basin in the inspection and test shop: there all its equipment is tested, while a sprinkler system is used to check that the whole structure is completely watertight.
For future reference, the technical departments of the boatyard conserve a comprehensive file on every vessel completed by the yard: this contains the references of all the materials and products utilized and all the equipment installed. Exact drawings of certain specific components are also archived, as well as samples of the composite. There is total traceability of every unit that leaves the yard: a rigorous system essential for subsequent maintenance.
Completely inspected and equipped, our catamarans are ready to sail. As soon as they are launched, they set out for their home port by sea.

I.C.N.N product certification:

All Fountaine Pajot catamarans and Trawler Catamarans possess an "EC type" certificate in conformity with European directive 94/25 CE.

ISO 9001 certification for the whole company

The Fountaine Pajot yard is the first French boat builder to have obtained "ISO 9002 Quality" certification for the entire production cycle on its vessels. Always in the forefront where quality is concerned, Fountaine Pajot has just obtained its certification to ISO 9001 version 2000.
This certification is an international standard designed to improve customer satisfaction, so compelling the company to make constant improvements in its products and management procedures.
