| ALIR blast off |
 |
|
This Thursday, July 29th, close to 100 multi - as
well as monohulls have started the 28th edition of the
classic ALIR
(Around Long Island Race).
WAY TO GO, Aeroyacht's transatlantic tested Outremer
45 catamaran, with a crew
of 5, will enter this challenging competition.
Regarded by many NY sailors as a tough 250 mile ocean
race, the
ALIR is effectively 4 races in one. Sailors encounter
varying wind and tidal conditions and have to squeeze
through notorious "Plum Gut" when entering Long Island
Sound from the Atlantic. The fact that often more than
1/3
of the fleet drops out before the finish reflects the
testing conditions for vessels and crew.
