WILLOW rushing to NY

Readers of our Ocean Passages Newsletter will remember WILLOW, the magnificent new Outremer 55S. At press time, WILLOW will be en route from St.Lucia taking a direct course to the Aeroyacht office on Long Island, NY. The crew consists of, Robin Griffiths, Peter and Theresa Crosbie and Gregor Tarjan who will enjoy WILLOWS powerful sailplan and spacious accommodations. They will be sailing past the tropical Windward and Leeward Islands of the Caribbean, over the deep Puerto Rico Trench, passing over the Tropic of Cancer experiencing the variable conditions of the Sargasso Sea and finally crossing the Gulf Stream. Towards the end of their 2000 mile journey, one of the highlights will be the passage through Manhattans East River, sailing past NYC skyscrapers, dodging ferry traffic and managing the notorious bottle-neck of Hells Gate.

WILLOW will be stationed at Aeroyacht's waterfront offices and will be entered in the annual Around Long Island Race in July and other offshore events.

Hydraplaneur capsizes !

"MEDIATIS REGION AQUITAINE CAPSIZES, PARLIER SAFE" . These were the first words from Team Ocea on Monday April 25 2005. Aeroyacht Ltd., which acts as Yves Parlier's US logistics center, received the alarming news that our friend Yves Parlier aboard his extreme ocean racer has capsized. Hydraplaneur the 60 foot twin-rigged catamaran was overpowered, turned yet remained afloat to save Yves from the elements.

At 4 am (GMT), on Monday, April 25th race headquarters was informed of the capsizing of Hydraplaneure, also known as Médiatis Région Aquitaine. A Chilean cargo boat on a routine mission immediately diverted its route to take aboard Yves Parlier who is now out of danger. He suffers from concussions and from a broken rib. The capsizing took place during the second attempt of record of 24-hour distance run.

Aboard the cargo boat, Yves Parlier spoke of the circumstances of the capsizing: «....the boat began accelerating by lifting the hull. I had difficulty to slacken the main sail to slow down. I went out on the deck and I managed to slacken but nevertheless, the boat gradually overturned on the edge and I fell towards the opposite hull. 15 minutes later, the boat had fully capsized...." The catamaran and skipper were located by EPIRB; the boat is situated to the West of the Canary Islands. At press time the OCEA technical team of Médiatis Région Aquitaine, based in Las Palmas of Gran Canaria, has recovered HYDRAPLANEUR and is towing the boat back to the Canaries. Aeroyacht and the sailing community are happy that Yves is safe and wish the Team a fast recovery.

Aeroyacht will be on standby to continue to assist Yves with any US based activities, such as the planned attempt of the Blue Ribbon-Transatlantic Record this summer.
