1973 Porsche 914 GT/4 Vic Elford

This 1973 Porsche 914GT was the PCA (Porsche Club of America’s) CA-Autocross Champion in 2009. Due to the car’s low- wide stance, mid engine design and light weight its handling characteristics are outstanding. It regularly outperforms much more powerful cars such as Porsche GT2′s and Corvettes on short tracks.

This 1973 Porsche 914 GT4 was successfully raced in the 2011 edition of the grueling 2000 mile Targa Newfoundland endurance rally. Driver, Gregor Tarjan and navigator Peter Archey achieved a class victory and completed all of the 43 stages below the set Targa times – thus winning the coveted Targa Plate.

On its front hood the car displays the signature of legendary Porsche race-car driver Vic Elford who has also driven this car. This Porsche 914 is fitted with the original 4 cyl. aircooled boxer engine, fed by twin Weber downdraft carburetors. The T4-race power plant has a hardened head, a tricked valve train and special cam producing 140 HP. Just as the original Porsche Werks Racers most body panels are ultra light composite.

Porsche built about 100,000 examples of the 914, but only 13 factory prepared race cars that this car emulates. This street legal car is used for hill climbs, track and autocross races and is  driven by its owner to each event—some of them as far away Canada. The car raced on the Monticello Race Track in Upstate NY where above photo was taken.

All the work on this exceptional handling sports car were done by Aircooled Racing PA and Accurate Alignment NY.
