Progress has been slightly hindered for 3 days by a defective gelcoat spray gun but after a fix all is back to full speed in the composite build. As Andrew is fairing the rudder plug the stbd. deck mold is transported back to the assembly building where the deck has already been finished. The keel and bowsprit molds are being prepared for layup. Generator and many deck parts are starting to arrive and the two Yanmar engines will be delivered early this week.

Aeroyacht will be in New York City to greet one of the greatest single-handed sailors in the world. Francis Joyon, is expected to arrive in New York City at Dennis Conner’s North Cove today with his extreme trimaran “IDEC.”

Joyon will be berthed in the marina for a week or longer as he waits for a weather window to challenge the Single-Handed Trans-Atlantic Record.

IDEC is 97 ft in length and one of the fastest ocean-going trimarans in the world. In 2008, Joyon and IDEC set a new Single-Handed Round the World Record of 57 days, 13 hours and 34 minutes, beating the previous record by 14 days.

We at Aeroyacht are shocked and saddened for the loss of Andrew “Bart” Simpson, who was training Thursday aboard the Swedish racing catamaran ARTEMIS on windy San Francisco bay. Artemis Racing said Andrew “Bart” Simpson died after the capsized boat’s platform trapped him underwater for about 10 minutes . Artemis and two other yacht teams each outfitted with multimillion-dollar racing boats that can achieve speeds of 45 mph are challenging defending champions Oracle Racing for the America’s Cup, sailing’s most prestigious trophy.

Cruising catamarans are chosen by live-aboards and circumnavigators because they are known to be the safest boat’s afloat. Their racing counterparts, especially ones with solid wingmasts can be very dangerous as sheet loads and speeds often build faster than the crew can react too.

Above photo shows Flo and Marco in front of Alpha Yachts new 6000 sqft carpentry facility which will give the builder independence from impeding delays and full control of finishing quality. In the mean time the port side deck mold has been completed and moved into the composite shop where the catamaran’s deck will be laid up this week. In the coming days the starboard side deck plug will be finished and work is progressing well on the roof and galley plugs. The next 20 days will see huge steps towards completion of all composite parts of the Alpha 42.

Wow is all we can say when looking at the images of the Neel 60 trimaran. After having sailed on the Neel 45 we have come to the conclusion that trimarans simply sail better than catamarans. The Neel 60 trimaran is the latest arrival to the NEEL trimarans family and is a statement of intent with its “Sport Chic” navigation style. The NEEL 60 is a lightweight craft with sleek lines and all the sailing qualities of its smaller brother the NEEL 45 trimaran : High Performance, fine helming and excellent sea keeping are trademarks of the Neel trimaran range.
