105 foiling monster tri – singlehanded
Exciting new world ! So now it is not enough sailing upwind in 12 knots, fully airborne at 40 knots with a full complement of crew, as the victorious Kiwi America’s Cup bicyclists proved. Now a bunch of lunatic French sailors are launching a 105′ monster trimaran that will foil with only one sole sailor aboard. She will be an open ocean greyhound built specifically for the solo non-stop around the world race called the Ultime Challenge. “Edmund de Rothshild” as she will be called will be skippered by maniac Sebastien Josse who we not only admire for his talent and seamanship skills, but also question his sanity as he will try to contain the enormous power of this giant flying machine in the open ocean.
“Edmund de Rothshild is one of the first boats to be designed to work in a displacement mode (sailing “conventionally”) as well as being optimized to foil in the right conditions. She has T- foil rudders and L-shaped foils in both amas as well as a daggerboard and a t-foiled rudder in the main hull.
Bon voyage Sebastien ! we will follow you all the way round…at 50 knots
