Bravo to Joyon ! 60 year old Frenchman Francis Joyon and his five man crew smashed the round the world sailing record becoming the first team to circumnavigate the globe without assistance in 40 days. Imagine that wild ride – day and night…
The team, on the 101’ maxi trimaran IDEC Sport entered Brest on the west coast of France after 40 days 23 hours 30 minutes and 30 seconds at sea. The veteran navigator beat by more than four days the previous record set in 2012 by fellow Frenchman Loyc Peyron.
“We are delighted”, Joyon said after crossing the finish line. ”We went wild” he said of the crew’s reaction to achieving the feet. Joyon’s record is the third round the world record to topple in as little as a month.
