Louis Vuitton Cup in NYC

Firsthand account of the Louis Vuitton Series in NYC:
“…. working my way from the garage to the venue in lower Manhattan with my daughter and a few of her sailing buddies, we picked up our pace as we saw the Louis Vuitton signage on the New York City light posts. Catching our first glimpse of the Hudson river and then the striking blue square top main of Artemis, we felt the excitement of this once in a century event.
Standing on a NYC East side park bench to look over top of the crowd we saw the full fleet in pre-start maneuvers and it was awesome. How cool to see these race machines at times within a stone’s throw, in this valley between New York City skyline and New Jersey.
Cheers and excitement was heard from the crowd as Team Oracle cracked off on a close reach, her hulls lifting magically from the water. This was so impressive to see up close. The crowd stretched for perhaps a mile up river from our location and it was great to see the generation of such enthusiasm.
The racers certainly had their work cut out for them. Strong winds out of the north west – perhaps 25 kn coupled with what looked like a solid five knot tide in the Hudson River made for interesting rounding’s and tactics. We all gasped as Oracle got airborne and came very close to capsize but thankfully regained control…”
