MOD 70’s in NYC
The NY to France transatlantic race is on ! The KRYS Ocean Race fleet of five Multihull One-Design trimarans arrived in New York City on July 3, just in time for the Fourth of July celebrations. They are docked at Dennis Conner’s North Cove. Today, the fleet will do speed matches in the harbor from 3 to 5 p.m. Then the boats will return to dock where you can walk by this evening and tomorrow to see these incredible machines. To get a feeling of their size, look at the picture above and see the two small sailboats sailing among the trimarans. Those small boats are J/24s!
The big event will be Saturday when the KRYS Ocean Race starts at 11 a.m. The start will occur right off Lower Manhattan and the boats will round a buoy directly in front of North Cove before heading out across the Atlantic Ocean! This will be the first trans-Atlantic race between New York City and France. In sailing, this is about as extreme as you can get. Incredible stuff right here in New York City!
