Racing Multihull Capsize

Watch the video of the 40′ racing catamaranAberdeen Asset Management which pitchpoled spectacularly in gusty 20-25 knot conditions. The bows dug in as a big gust hit, and with no room to manoeuvre, the boat cart-wheeled, flipped the boat almost vertical, before capsizing. Lets remember – these catamarans sail at 110% all the time ! Their rigs are so powerful that it would take about 3 times the sail area of a regular cruising multihull to achieve the same righting moment.
