Sailors in NY, Brooklyn Hood.
Seeking out the Solo Transat boats arriving in NY harbor 1’hrs drive away seems like a nice way to spend a Saturday Spring Day. So Victor my son and I hop into the Jeep and hit the one hour traffic into New York, taking a ride right into the heart of Brooklyn Heights and the NYC harbor front. The hood is awesome and bring back memories with the fam. A 90’s ORMA tri, a 40′ Open and an old 60′ vintage Vendee Globe greet us. Anticlimactic – but hitting you with the stark realization of a dozen of solo sailors facing the N. Atlantic Westwards in Spring. The grey powerful Manhattan skyline looms in the background as Virbac sails backwards in the East River ebbing tide. Vic and me decide to hit a pizza bar on the way home to the North Shore of Long Island. There is no place like home.
