Storm Porn – IRENE
I must honestly admit, I plagiarized a similar line from our friend Charles Doane – executive editor of SAIL magazine. There was so much hype and over preparation that it seemed like overkill. The monster was the size of Europe and days before it hit New York the web was flooded with satellite images and dire predictions. However reflecting on the aftermath of hurricane IRENE (which theoretical eye passed exactly 23 miles West of our office in Long Island NY) and the path of destruction it left on the entire Eastern US Seaboard, the buildupwas justified. IRENE left Millions without power (including the Aeroyacht office for 6 days) and 100,000’s of homes flooded and devastated. Half a Billion $ of damages in yachts alone and dozens of lives lost. At the end of the day we feel saddened by the losses and grateful that nothing worse happened to our friends and family. Over hyped IRENE possibly, but not in vain.
